Who was Euclid?

Euclid (around 300 BC) - Greek mathematician, "Father of Geometry"


Euclid's Axioms

  1. Things equal to same thing are equal to each other
  2. If equals are added to equals, wholes are equal
  3. If equals are subtracted from equals, remainders are equal
  4. Things which coincide are equal
  5. The whole is greater than the part

Euclid's Postulates

  1. A straight line can be drawn from any point to any other point
  2. A terminated line can be produced indefinitely
  3. A circle can be drawn with any center and radius
  4. All right angles are equal
  5. Parallel Postulate: Lines meet on the side where interior angles are less than two right angles
